College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Build a Foundation

Butler University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences seeks to equip students to think for themselves and to act wisely and well in the world. As Butler’s largest and most diverse College made up of 12 departments, four interdisciplinary programs, and an Individualized Major Program, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers students the opportunity to pursue their individual interests and passions through unique courses of study.

With a particular emphasis on undergraduate research, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers students the opportunity to be involved in the creation and discovery of new knowledge by working hand-in-hand with our accomplished faculty. In fact, many of our students present research at professional conferences or become co-authors on research published in peer-reviewed journals during their undergraduate career—experiences that are more often seen in graduate programs at other institutions.

Through our unique and extensive partnerships with the Indianapolis and regional community, our students are learning to actively apply their studies to solve real-world problems. A few examples include our Engineering Program in Community Service (EPICS), which challenges undergraduate students to develop cutting-edge software to help local nonprofit organizations, and our Writing in the Schools program in partnership with Indianapolis Public Schools, which fosters the creativity of young writers through mentorship from our Creative Writing MFA students. And, our very own Center for Urban Ecology and Sustainability (CUES) one-acre farm provides extensive learning opportunities for our students while serving as a food source to local families and restaurants.

In order to continue building on these strengths and preparing our students for meaningful careers and lives, we need your help. Invest in our students and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences through one of our strategic funding priorities listed below. Each initiative will enhance and expand the learning opportunities we are able to provide our students while ensuring that Butler remains on the cutting edge of innovations in every discipline.
