At the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, we’re committed to providing innovative and interprofessional educational experiences with a liberal arts perspective. We develop life-long learners who are prepared to serve as dedicated and competent health professionals and leaders in their community. Along with our renowned Pharmacy program, which originated in 1904, Butler also houses the longest-running Physician Assistant (PA) program in the state of Indiana. We now offer a fully online Doctor of Medical Science degree designed for Physician Assistants interested in advancing in the medical field. In 2014, we launched the new Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program, which includes options to major in Health Sciences or Healthcare and Business, giving undergraduate students a point of entry into one of the fastest-growing industries in the country. Our combined degree programs of PharmD/MBA and PharmD/MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences give students a distinct niche in the job market.
We prepare our students for meaningful healthcare careers through hands-on learning in the classroom, collaborative research opportunities alongside our dedicated and accomplished faculty, and outstanding clinical experiences. In our SimLab, our students are able to use specialized medical training devices so they can practice patient examinations and procedures on standardized patients and mannequins to simulate a variety of illnesses and conditions. Through strong external partnerships with community practitioners and our very own Butler Community Outreach Pharmacy, Butler students also graduate with extensive hands-on experience working with real patients. And, our students are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities to gain global experiences through study abroad and international rotation sites.
Thanks to these outstanding learning opportunities, Butler students exceed the national average in passing rates for licensure exams in both the Pharmacy and Physician Assistant programs. In addition, 68% of Butler Pharmacy students who apply for a residency are accepted, more than double the national average. In order to build on these strengths and maintain our reputation as an innovative leader in health sciences education, we need your help.
PA Program Fund
Donating to the PA Program fund allows us to provide the top training equipment that supports our student's success to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a wide variety of clinical settings.
Butler University Community Outreach Program
Founded in 2009, BUCOP is a student-run organization that provides pharmacy services to the underserved and uninsured communities of Indianapolis. Donations provide medications, prescriptions vial, labels, and other important items. Their annual medication needs average around $10,000 to maintain and grow the current supply. Your support will allow BUCOP to continue supplying vital medications to its patients.
We have two young alumni from the COPHS Dean’s Advisory Council kicking off these fantastic funding opportunities for Butler’s Day of Giving. Thank you to Tyler Trueg, one of the founding members of BUCOP, and Bridget McGrath, a recent graduate from the PA Program, for leading the donations this year! Please consider joining Tyler, Bridget, and Dean Soltis in supporting COPHS students and programs this year.
