About the Butler University Department of Art
In Butler’s Art Department, we challenge students to identify, refine, and capitalize on their individual creative strengths. We help students customize their education with the right mix of information, skills, experience, and opportunities.
In the past decade, the Butler University Department of Art has more than quadrupled in size. We added an Art History Major, Graphic Design Minor, Photography Minor, and now a BFA in studio art.
Your support allows us to expand upon those opportunities by providing new equipment, supplies, and field trip experiences for our students.
Goals:
Digital Equipment
In order to teach our students about the cutting edge technology and the creative possibilities they provide, we hope to expand the tools in our classrooms by providing large format printers, digital drawing tools (iPad and Waccom displays) and 4k digital video cameras.
Professional Supplies
The costs of traditional art supplies have risen dramatically in the past few years, donations help us to provide professional grade art supplies for our students in the classroom.
Field Trips
In order to expand our students’ understanding of contemporary art and design, one of our goals is to fund field trips outside of the Indianapolis area, to visit museums and galleries in Chicago and Cincinnati.
Exhibition Space
We have so many students, and so much art to display, that our exhibition walls are typically packed full. We hope to use donations to add more exhibition walls, including moveable walls, at the annex, and across the Butler Campus.
