Investing in the Student Experience

The college of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the largest and oldest college at Butler University. As it has for over the last 150 years, the college curriculum cultivates the legacy of human thought, imagination, creativity, and research. Students majoring in LAS disciplines learn to think critically, communicate effectively, and reason analytically, as they develop skills that ensure our alumni understand how to continuously learn and adapt. Every LAS major offers experiential learning opportunities such as independent research, internships, study abroad, and service learning that enhance their understanding of their disciplines and ensures that students are well-prepared for employment, graduate programs, and professional schools around the country. LAS academic and co-curricular experiences prepare students to become effective, engaged citizens who live lives of meaning and purpose.

Featured LAS Initiatives:

Dean’s Priority Needs Fund Challenge
This year, Kathy Martin Harrison and Mark Harrison will match up to $5,000 towards the LAS Dean's Priority Needs Fund. The LAS Dean’s Fund provides support for:

  • Students engaging in undergraduate research and the creation of new knowledge
  • Students traveling to regional and national conferences to present the results of their investigations alongside graduate students or faculty members from other universities
  • Students participating in study abroad opportunities ensuring that all students have the opportunity to study abroad
  • Enhancing soft spaces for students to build community and belonging

LAS Faculty/Staff Challenge
Dean Howard is challenging all LAS faculty and staff! If 100 LAS faculty and staff make a gift on Day of Giving, in any amount to any area, $2,500 will be unlocked for the LAS Dean's Priority Needs Fund. The LAS Dean’s Priority Needs Fund supports students and faculty in the College by funding initiatives such as student travel to conferences, research software and equipment, and course development or revision.

LAS Student Scholarships - Scholarships Change Lives
The LAS Student Scholarship Fund supports students with financial need who major in one of the programs in the college. Student Scholarships are Butler’s top funding priority and area of greatest need for a reason–because our students are our top priority. Scholarships are crucial to fulfilling our strategic vision of expanding access to a Butler education. We annually invest 31% of our operating budget into competitive financial aid packages that put a Butler education within reach of promising students because we are convinced that Bulldogs are a worthy investment.

We need your help to sustain this vital financial aid program. Supporting student scholarships changes lives and creates a lasting ripple effect as today’s students become tomorrow’s impactful graduates.

All gifts to the LAS Student Scholarship Fund provide direct scholarships to current students, making an immediate and meaningful impact by helping them access the Butler experience.
